Joyce Lupiani
Joyce Lupiani brings more than 30 years of award-winning journalism experience to her role as a Digital Content Creator with FOX 5 Atlanta. Her career spans print, broadcast, and digital media, with an impressive track record of innovation and impactful reporting.
Joyce began her journey at the Portland Press Herald in Maine, where she spent three years before joining the Las Vegas Review-Journal for 16 years. While there, she helped launch one of the first newspaper websites in the mid-90s, marking her as a pioneer in digital news; launched the restaurant report/dirty dining franchise, which has been adopted by newspapers and TV stations around the country; assisted in the development of the entertainment tab, NEON (she even picked out the name); and was the streaming producer for RJTV. She later spent 11 years with KTNV-TV Channel 13 in Las Vegas where she created the popular "13 Things to Do in Las Vegas" series, managed the assignment desk, served as managing editor of Positively Las Vegas, and was the executive producer for the streaming series How to Vegas.
Her reporting has spanned a diverse range of topics, from breaking news to entertainment, earning her multiple awards for digital innovation and news coverage. Some of her career coverage highlights include:
2017 Las Vegas mass shooting
Introduction of the Vegas Golden Knights
Murder of casino mogul Ted Binion and trial of Sandy Murphy/Rick Tabish
Collapse of Harmon Tower
2008 Las Vegas housing market crash
Redevelopment of downtown Las Vegas
Life and death of Zappos billionaire Tony Hsieh
Release of "Black Widow" Margaret Rudin from prison
Robbery trial and prison release of O.J. Simpson
Yucca Mountain Nuclear Waste Repository controversy
CES (formerly known as Consumer Electronics Show)
Storm Area 51 phenomenon
COVID-19 pandemic closes Las Vegas
Sin City Gigolo: A Murder in Las Vegas
George Floyd/Black Lives Matter protests in Las Vegas
In addition to covering serious topics, Joyce provided extensive entertainment and dining coverage in Las Vegas, including show openings, concerts, red carpets, new restaurants, and attractions.
Since relocating to Atlanta in September 2021, Joyce has immersed herself in the city’s vibrant culture. She creates weekly "things to do" lists for metro Atlanta and seasonal holiday guides. She explores the region, sharing stories, photos, and videos of small towns, community events, and festivals for FOX5Atlanta.com and its social media platforms.
Her Atlanta reporting includes high-profile topics like the Georgia election interference case, the Fulton County District Attorney controversy, the year-long YSL RICO trial, and in-depth coverage of Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter’s legacy. Joyce has visited their hometown of Plains and The Carter Center, becoming somewhat of an expert on the iconic couple.
Despite her success, Joyce’s entry into journalism was unconventional. Though she attended multiple colleges, she does not hold a journalism degree. Her path into the industry involves a long, intriguing story featuring author Stephen King, President George W. Bush, and a bank robbery. If you’re curious, she invites you to ask her about it!
